US FS FB #10 - The shell is an original WWII McCord Radiator with a front seam, stainless steel band and fixed bales. The heat stamp reads as 100? (the letter at the end is not readable). The factory paint had been over-painted at some time. Some of the original factory texture was still visible under the external paint. There is one small 15mm stress crack at the left-front. There was a largish dint to the crown and a crease at the right rear. The shell was stripped to bare metal, repaired, primed and painted in olive-drab with a textured outer surface. A new OD3 chinstrap set has been fitted. The liner is a reproduction Hawley liner with off-white rayon webbing and rectangular galvanized washers. Having owned a couple of original Hawleys, I am amazed at its quality, attention to detail and authenticity. It is made of impact resistant urethane; the external fabric lined texture is there; the smooth olive-drab inner; the curved over rim; LINER – FIBRE – M – 1 stamp; rayon webbing; rounded-end galvanized washers, nickel-plated snaps; fixed leather chinstrap with buckle; rayon sweatband with leather brow size 57cm. This reproduction Hawley liner is perfect; it is even better than the original because it’s not made of cardboard.
