US FS #97 - Shell: The shell is an original WWII McCord with a front seam, black-steel band and swivel bales. The heat stamp is not evident on this shell, unusual, but there you have it. The shell would be late war; late 44 perhaps. When acquired the shell had the remains of its factory paint and texture though in poor condition; there was no decent paint inside. Someone over time has punched a 5mm hole in the crown; the hole virtually disappeared when tapped out; a small amount of filler was used. Other than the hole, the shell is in very good condition. The shell was stripped to bare metal, primed then painted in olive-drab with a textured outer. A new OD3 chinstrap set has been fitted. Liner: The liner is an original WW2 high-pressure type manufactured by Westinghouse with the logo and the mould number 13 in the crown. When acquired, the liner was painted in the remnants of its factory paint. The liner was stripped and repainted in olive-drab. The liner had the partial remains of its original triple-weave OD3 webbing. The liner has been fully refitted with new OD3 triple-weave webbing, new A washers and rivets; new sweatband, new neck strap and a new leather chinstrap. Depiction: The helmet has US Army Staff Sergeant’s chevrons at the front painted in subdued yellow over black. A dark brown cam net has been fitted.
