US FS #89 Schlueter

US FS #89 - The shell is an original WWII Schlueter with a front seam, stainless-steel band and swivel bales. The heat stamp is 70A with the Schlueter ‘S’ beneath. When acquired the shell was painted in a smooth post-war olive-drab. The shell is in great condition without rust; it has numerous small dings around the crown. It was stripped to bare metal, primed and painted in olive-drab inside with a textured Navy blue/grey outer. A new OD3 chinstrap set has been fitted. The liner is an original WW2 high-pressure type manufactured by Firestone with the logo and the mould number 35 in the crown. When acquired, the liner was painted white on the outer with decals on each side for the US American Legion. The outer was stripped and repainted in olive-drab. The liner retains its original triple-weave OD3 webbing, A washers and rivets. No maker marks evident on the webbing. The shell was fitted with a new sweatband, new neck strap and a new leather chinstrap. The helmet represents a Navy type in blue-grey with USN stencilled on the front in light grey.
