US FS #87 - The shell is an original WWII McCord Radiator with a front seam, stainless-steel band and swivel bales. The heat stamp is very faintly stamped as 345A. This shell has had at least one olive-drab repaint during its time though there is evidence of the original texture beneath the repaint mainly around the lower portions. Bits of the original paint could be seen in some places. The shell is in good condition. The shell was stripped to bare metal, primed and painted olive-drab with a textured outer.  A new OD3 chinstrap set has been fitted. The liner is an original WW2 high-pressure type manufactured by Mine Safety Appliance (MSA) with the logo and the mould number 20 in the crown. When acquired, the liner was painted in gloss dark green; this outer paint was very nice and I have retained it. The liner retains its original single-weave OD3 webbing by Paul K. Weill Co. (PKW); original A washers and rivets. The shell was fitter with a new sweatband, new neck strap and a new leather chinstrap. The helmet represents that of a standard GI example with an original WW2, US manufactured, purpose made cam net with a factory attached, elasticized helmet band. The only US helmet net specifically made for the M1 combat helmet.
