Sth African #10 - The shell is an original WW2 South African (SA) manufactured version of the British MkII. The shells were made by the Transvaal Steel Pressing Syndicate. This particular example is not date factory stamped with the year, as I have seen on others. Three holes are stamped in the rear rim, designed to accommodate a neck shade or flap. The chinstrap lugs are a square stainless-steel MkII type and are riveted on to the shell. This shell retained about 50% of its perhaps original olive-drab paint; not in good condition. The shell is undamaged and without rust. The shell was cleaned back to bare metal and primed; then painted olive-drab inside and a textured sand colour on the outside. The helmet liner is a replica from Soldier of Fortune imported from Wales UK, has a plastic frame with a vinyl type liner, draw string and rubber x shaped bumper. A new brass top nut is fitted. It is a head size 58 cm. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/web type230, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. A khaki cam net has been fitted.
