M40 #36 - Shell: The shell is an original WW2 Model 1940, size 66cm example. The factory stamps are Q66 with a batch number of DN255 (F.W. Quist situated in Esslingen north of Stuttgart). When acquired there was no paint on this shell; no rust or damage either; a couple of extra 4mm holes were stamped into the shell at some time and these have been welded up. The shell was cleaned up for painting, then primed and painted in standard grey-green with a textured outer surface in accordance with 1940 specifications. A 1942 dated acceptance stamp has been applied to the inner dome. Liner: The liner is a superb replacement M1931 helmet liner, with a zinc outer band and pig skin leather. The leather is ink marked as size 59 (59cm head size). This liner is of the highest quality; imported from the Czech Republic; identical to originals and the best on the market. Chinstrap: The leather chin strap is a superb replacement also, it is marked C. KORN ALZEY 1943. Restored Depiction: This shell has been restored to 1940 specifications; it is painted in grey-green with a textured outer; SD Army. An Italian camo pattern cover has been fitted.
