M40 #29
M40 #29
M40 #29 - Shell: The shell is an original WW2 Model 1940 example. As is often the case with relic helmets, the factory stamps appear when the helmet is stripped back to bare metal. The very faint factory stamp of SE62 could just be seen. SE denotes the maker as being Sachsische Emaillerwerk, Lauter, Germany and 62 as the shell size, 62cm. The lot number also faintly appeared and looked to be 4477. Though this shell was quite rust affected, it is solid and intact. There is some pitting but not too much and the outer surface is relatively smooth considering. The shell has not rusted through at all. The shell was stripped to bare metal, rust treated, primed and painted in grey-green with a textured outer surface. Liner: The liner is a nice replacement M1931 helmet liner, with a zinc outer band. It is ink marked as size 55 (55cm head size). It has the correct draw string and pig skin leather. This liner is of the highest quality; imported from the Czech Republic; identical to originals and the best on the market. Chinstrap: The leather chin strap is a very nice replacement with steel hardware; it is soft and pliable; and is marked R.LARSEN BERLIN 1939. Restored Depiction: This helmet is restored to represent a stock standard issue, and classic, 1940 SD Army example. An Italian pattern camo cover has been fitted.
