M35 #20 Beaded
M35 #20 Beaded
M35 #20 - Shell: The shell is an Model 1935 which has been beaded through its lower circumference. This would signify that it failed Quality Control to be used as a combat helmet but could be relegated for non-combat use. This shell was purchased from Poland and battlefield salvaged. No original paint existed, the shell was affected by rust and shows pitting inside and out with only a couple of pin holes evident. The folded rim of the shell was rusted away in a couple of spots. The M35 air vent bushes were not present so I made the shell look like an M40. The maker size stamp might be EF60 which indicates the manufacturer as being Emaillierwerke – Fulda and the shell size as 60cm which is very small. The shell was cleaned back to bare metal, repaired, primed then painted in smooth blue-grey. Though it remains pitted, it turned out very clean and is a solid steel shell, the rust being eliminated. Liner: The liner is a nice replacement M1931 helmet liner, with a galvanized steel outer band. It is ink marked as size 53 (53cm head size) to fit a small size head. The draw string is a shoe lace weave, cotton type and the leather is said to be calfskin. This liner is of high quality, sourced from the Czech Republic, identical to originals and the best on the market. Chinstrap: The leather chin strap is a very nice replacement and is marked Wilhelm Ellers Jr., Bielefeld, 1942. Restored Depiction: This helmet is restored to depict a DD police helmet.
