M18 #3 ECO
M18 #3 ECO
M18 #3 ECO - Shell: The shell is an original M18 ‘special model’ ear cut-out type. The shell itself has been restored as a DD Elite but not by me. The job of restoration has been incredibly well done. Inside the flare near the left ear is the maker/size stamp which reads as ET64 written in a stylised font. This signifies the manufacturer as Eisenhuttenwerk, Thale, Harz and the shell size of 64cm. The steel batch stamp can be found inside the dome and reads as R1842N which, according to Ken from ‘German Helmets Inc’, falls within the correct range for this type of helmet. ET was the only manufacturer of this type of ‘special’ helmet and only in the size of 64cm. There is another stamp under the bill which reads as AR2. I am unsure what this represents. Liner: The liner is a mint condition original with an aluminium outer band. The band is of the non-reinforced type. No stamps are visible on the liner band without removing it. The pigskin leather is supple with only minor wear. The drawstring is of the correct type. Chinstrap: Ken was not sure if the chinstrap is an original or post-war but most likely post-war. It has steel hardware and is not maker stamped. Restoration: The DDs are are extreme quality C.A. Pocher type reproductions.
