M18 #11 Austrian Berndorf
M18 #11 Austrian Berndorf
M18 #11 - Shell: This shell has been restored at some time by a ‘restorer’; not me. It is a 1918, Austrian made Berndorf type; manufactured at the Krupp facility in Berndorf. It is factory stamped at the centre, inner rear with the little Berndorf bear and the shell size of 64; in the dome the batch number of B over 86 is stamped. The shell is in excellent condition. The brownish paint shows some wear evidently aged to appear so. Still, it is a very rare shell. Liner: The liner is a convincingly aged replica. It is made from a stiff canvas material with a steel outer band. It has the little padding pockets behind each canvas tongue; each is made from mattress like material and contains padding. Chinstrap: The chinstrap is also an aged replica. It is made from canvas typical of Austrian chinstraps of the era. It has an adjustment buckle for size and a slide type buckle to join the two ends. Restored Depiction: Overall, this is a very plausible example of an Austrian Berndorf.
