M18 #10 ECO

M18 #10 ECO - Firstly, this shell has been restored and aged by a ‘restorer’; not me. Having said that, this shell is a 100% original, German M18 special model; Ear Cut Out (ECO). It was purchased from German Helmets Inc in Michigan US. The lot number in the crown is clear as RD570F. The maker size stamp is hard to see as ET64. It is said that only a 100K of these were produced. This shell is painted in an aged Ludendorff Camo pattern externally with an aged standard green inside. There is no rust present with the shell being in good condition overall. The liner is a replacement M18 (1918) type with a steel outer band, three leather tongues of ‘chromium’ appearance, a string drawstring and attached chinstrap brackets. Each leather tongue has a pocket sewn to the rear and a small padded pillow is inserted in each. The pillows provide padding and assist with sizing. This liner will fit multiple medium head sizes. It has been aged by the restorer. The leather chinstrap has been aged and is attached directly to the liner as opposed to the M16/17 arrangement. One end is riveted and the other is looped to an adjustment buckle. The two ends attach via a carbine snap. Seeing is believing.
