Italian #8 Alpini
Italian #8 Alpini
Italian #8 Alpini - Original Italian Model 1933 steel shell, could be post-war. The shell is stamped with the lot number B146 at the inner rear. There is a 30mm crack at the centre rear; this has been stabilized with a small amount of weld. The shell was painted in an olive-drab colour when acquired; it has been stripped, primed and repainted in a smooth dark-ish grey-green. The helmet came with its original brown leather liner which is soft and in good condition, as is the leather drawstring. It is marked as a size 61 (cm for head size). The grey-green leather chinstrap is a replica imported from Italy. The helmet represents a wartime example of the 8th Alpini Regiment, part of the 3nd Alpini Division or “Julia Division”. The 8th Alpini Regiment was made up of the Gemona, Tolmezzo and Val Cividale Battalions. The Alpini emblem has been stenciled on the front of the helmet for the 8th Regiment.
