Brit54 - Shell: The shell is an original WW2, Brititsh manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel factory chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are unmarked. The factory stamps under the flare are read B L98 1/1941 (B is what remains of BMB – Briggs Motor Bodies Ltd – Dagenham). When acquired the shell was covered in numerous lays of paint; the top layer was evidently a tan colour; hard to tell. The shell was stripped to bare metal and cleaned up quite nicely with only some evidence or rust pitting and a couple of small dings. Liner: The helmet liner is an imported replica from SOF in Wales, it has a plastic frame, faux leather lining and a cross shaped rubber bumper. It is a head size 58 cm with a new brass top-nut. Chinstrap: The helmet has been fitted with an imported replica spring/web type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. Restored Depiction: This helmet has been painted olive-drab inside and ‘vehicle paint’ yellow outside with a heavy coarse texture; splotches of olive-drab form a desert camo pattern. A khaki cam net has been fitted.
