Brit44 - The shell is an original WW2, British manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel chinstrap lugs are the MkII type and are not marked. The factory stamps under the flare were not evident; There was a quadrant off the flare affected by rust pitting and the factory stamps may have been in this affected area. When acquired the shell was painted in very thick olive-drab paint inside and out; it was quite tar like to remove. Most of the shell was nice and smooth with only a few minor dings. The shell cleaned up very nicely; it was stripped to bare metal, primed then painted in olive-drab with a textured outer. The helmet liner is an imported replacement from SOF in Wales, it has a plastic frame with a vinyl type liner and a draw string. It is a head size 58 cm with a new brass top-nut. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/web type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. This helmet has had the camouflage pattern copied off an original WW2 example used in Malta during the war. I bet he was an AA gunner.
