Brit42 - The shell is an original WW2, British manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are marked III 1943. The factory stamps under the flare near the rear seam are 455 1943; there is no stamp for the actual manufacturer. When acquired the shell was painted in thick grey paint inside and out with evidently many, many layers beneath.. The shell cleaned up very nicely; it was stripped to bare metal, primed then painted in olive-drab with a textured outer. The helmet liner is an imported replacement from SOF in Wales, it has a plastic frame with a vinyl type liner and a draw string. It is a head size 58 cm with a new brass top-nut. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/web type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. This helmet has been fitted with an original WW2, British made, small mesh cam net.
