Brit40 - The shell is an original WW2, British manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are not marked. The factory stamps under the flare, near one of the chinstrap lugs, are JSS 67 I/1940 (Joseph Sankey & Sons Ltd, Bilston, Eng.). When acquired the shell outer had flaking grey paint; the inner had flaking grey paint under the flare and tan paint in the dome. The shell cleaned up nicely; it was stripped to bare metal, primed then painted in olive-drab with a textured outer. The helmet liner is an imported replacement from SOF in Wales, it is an early war Mk II type liner with an oval shaped bumper pad and felt spacers. It is a head size 58cm with a recycled brass top-bolt and nut. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/web type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. This helmet has the tactical flash for the 1^st Independent Guards Brigade painted on the left side; a red stripe on blue with a white number one. An olive-drab cam net has been fitted.
