Brit39 - The shell is an original WW2, British manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are very faintly marked III 1940. The factory stamps under the flare are JSS 57 1/1941 (Joseph Sankey & Sons Ltd, Bilston). When acquired the shell outer had multiple layers of paint, the top layer was red; the inner was covered in layers of grey. The shell cleaned up nicely; it was stripped to bare metal, primed then painted in olive-drab inside and smooth RAF blue outside. The helmet liner is an imported replacement from SOF in Wales, it has a plastic frame with a faux leather lining. It is a head size 58 cm with a new brass top-nut.  The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/webbing type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. This helmet is painted in RAF blue with RAF stenciled in white at the front.
