Brit30 - The shell is an original WW2, British manufactured MkII shell with a stainless-steel banded edge. The stainless-steel chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and are unmarked. There are no clear factory markings evident. When acquired the shell had no paint to speak of; was covered in surface rust with pitting to portions of the inner surface. The shell cleaned up nicely. The shell was stripped to bare metal, primed and painted olive-drab inside; painted a textured ship-board grey outside. The helmet liner is an imported replacement from SOF in Wales, it has a plastic frame with a vinyl type liner and a draw string. It is a head size 58 cm with a new brass top-nut. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement spring/web type, khaki chinstrap with steel hardware. The rank marking for a Royal Navy “First Lieutenant” or ship’s second in command has been painted on the front.
