Aussie71 - Shell: The shell is an original WW2, Australian manufactured MkII shell with a raw edge. The original brass chinstrap lugs are stamped Mk III and 1941. When acquired there was no original paint really; it would have been black and there was evidence of FAS (Civil Defence – First Aid Service?) in white on the front; the original liner and chinstrap existed but were in poor condition. The steel lot number was found just visible under the flare but not legible. The top-nut is a brass salvaged original rethreaded for a new bolt. This shell was stripped to bare metal; it was then primed and painted olive-drab inside with a textured desert yellow outside. Liner:  The helmet liner is an imported replica from SOF in Wales. It has a plastic frame with faux leather lining. It is a 58cm head size. Chinstrap: The helmet has been fitted with a superb replacement WW2 spring/webbing type khaki chinstrap with steel fittings. Depiction: The helmet is in desert yellow with the emblem of the 6th AIF Division hand painted on the left; a white kangaroo and boomerang over a black patch.
