Aussie62 - The shell is an original WW2, Australian manufactured MkII shell with a raw edge. I have purchased a couple of Australian helmet batches from the one dealer; all of these helmets would have been intact and in good condition when stored but poor storage over the decades has wrecked them. One brass chinstrap lug remains on this shell; it is marked MkIII; there is no year stamp. The other chinstrap lug is a replacement. The steel lot number was found under the flare near the replaced chinstrap lug and reads simply as 209. When acquired, some of the original paint existed externally in patches. Little of the inner paint remained with the dome of the shell quite affected by rust pitting; under the flare was okay. The original liner and chinstrap were rotted out. The shell cleaned up quite well with no damage. The top-nut is a brass salvaged original rethreaded for a new bolt. This shell was stripped to bare metal and the inner dome was rust treated; it was then primed and painted in olive-drab with a textured outer surface. The helmet liner is an imported replica from SOF in Wales. It has a synthetic frame with faux leather lining. It is a 58cm head size. The helmet has been fitted with a superb replacement WW2 spring/webbing type khaki chinstrap with steel fittings. The helmet has been fitted with an original WW2 British made net. This net was purpose made to fit a Mk II helmet.
