Aussie59 - The shell is an original WW2, Australian manufactured MkII shell with a raw edge. The brass chinstrap lugs are the MkIII type and stamped MkIII 1942. There was no evidence of the Commonwealth Steel lot number, it may be obscured by the area that is rust pitted. When acquired, the external paint and texture was mostly present but flaking; the internal paint was in poor condition, rust pitting covered half; the original liner and chinstrap were present but fell apart at the touch. I consider that this helmet was in very good condition when put into storage but the storage conditions were very poor. The shell cleaned up quite well with no damage other than rust pitting. The top-nut and bolt are brass replacements. This shell was stripped to bare metal, primed and painted in olive-drab with a textured outer surface. The helmet is fitted with an imported liner from SOF in Wales. It has a plastic frame with a vinyl cradle. It is a 58cm head size. The helmet has been fitted with a replacement WW2 spring/web type khaki chinstrap with steel fittings. This helmet has been fitted with an Australian made, jungle green, thick string net. It was made by M. B. Wragg and Co. Pty. Ltd, Gardenvale Victoria.
